Über den eigenen Appstore konnte man bislang in dem Amazon Underground Programm viele Apps kostenlos herunterladen.
Amazon wollte damit eine Konkurrenz zu Google aufbauen und lockte neben den normalen kostenpflichtigen Apps auch mit den kostenlosen über Underground. Viele fragen sich sicherlich, wieso die Entwickler ihre Apps dort überhaupt kostenlos angeboten haben. Das System hinter Amazon Underground ist etwas anders, die Entwickler verdienen nicht durch eine einmalige Zahlung der App, sondern dort es geht nach Nutzungsdauer. Zudem werden diese Teilweise durch Werbeeinblendungen beim Start und/oder Beenden der App finanziert.
Kurz nach der Einführung habe ich mir hier auch die eine oder andere sonst kostenpflichtige App mal gesichert aber insgesamt nutze ich den Store eigentlich so gut wie nie. Viele haben sich den Store nur installiert, um sich die sonst recht teure Navigon Europa App mit allen Addons kostenlos zu sichern, die sonst weit über 100€ kosten würden.
Nun verkündet also Amazon selbst das offizielle Ende der kostenlosen Apps in Underground. Dies erfolgt erstmal in zwei Stufen. Ab dem 31. Mai 2017 könnt Ihr nicht mehr auf den Underground Store zugreifen und somit keine Apps mehr kostenlos runterladen. Außerdem können Entwickler ab dem Zeitpunkt keine Apps mehr dort einreichen. Fire-Tablet Nutzer sollen noch bis 2019 Updates erhalten und neue Apps herunterladen können, danach ist aber definitiv Schluss.
Sollte Ihr aktuell noch Underground Apps auf eurem Smartphone installiert haben, könnt Ihr diese natürlich auch noch weiterhin nutzen, erhaltet dann aber keine Updates mehr. Solltet Ihr eurer Smartphone aber wechseln und die Apps nicht anderweitig sichern, können diese aus der Amazon App nicht mehr heruntergeladen werden.

While we will continue to expand the Amazon Appstore experience, we have decided to discontinue the Underground Actually Free program. All support for the program will end in 2019. Until then, current Fire tablet customers can continue to enjoy previously installed Underground apps and access the Underground Actually Free store. Fire tablet access to the Underground store will not extend beyond currently supported devices. Access to the Underground Actually Free store through Amazon’s Appstore for Android devices will end in summer 2017. Android customers will continue to have access to the Amazon Underground app to shop for physical goods and access Prime Video content and can enjoy previously installed Underground Actually Free apps.
As of May 31st, 2017, Amazon will no longer accept new app and game submissions for the Underground Actually Free program. If you’re an existing Amazon Underground developer, you will continue to get paid for every minute customers spend in your Amazon Underground app as provided in our developer agreement.
