2G is not safe! Experts criticize 2G rules in Germany – more harm than good!

In view of the ever-rising infection figures in Germany, outgoing German Chancellor Angela Merkel has spoken out in favour of extending the 2G rule. This was stated by the government spokesman, Steffen Seibert, on Wednesday in Berlin. In this way, one wants to contain the Corona infection numbers from the side of the government. But now experts are sharply criticizing these measures. These speak of false security and also of inadequate communication.

Federal states tighten Corona measures

Because of the high infection figures, the first federal states have begun to implement stricter measures. Bavaria, for example, will rely on a 3G-plus model in the future. Instead of the rapid tests, however, only the much more precise PCR tests will be recognized for this. Saxony is going even further. In the future, only vaccinated and recovered persons will be allowed to eat in restaurants and attend large events. This regulation could possibly be extended to Christmas markets. But among experts there is criticism of the 2G rule. This is because it affects the wrong people and also gives people a false sense of security. This point of view is, for example, the

epidemiologist Klaus Stöhr. “2G turns on the wrong set screw, as far as vaccination is concerned,” lets epidemiologist Klaus Stöhr announce. “The higher vaccination pressure that results may not hit the right people,” Stöhr believes. In his opinion, 2G would not intervene enough in the everyday life of many people to make them decide to vaccinate. “A large proportion of the unvaccinated people treated in intensive care units and hospitals probably have a migration background and come from socially weak backgrounds. Among these, living conditions, cultural circle and social environment mean that visits to restaurants, theatres, bars, discos or other places that require testing or vaccination are less frequent. Thus, 2G does not represent a great vaccination motivation for them,” the physician justifies his opinion.

Epidemiologist Stöhr speaks out against 2G rule

Stöhr sees the priority above all in closing the vaccination gap among the over 60-year-olds, so that these “two to three million unvaccinated people” can better prepare themselves for an infection by the virus. In addition, the physician also recommends that unvaccinated people get tested as often as possible. In Stöhr’s opinion, this should always happen when these people meet relatives or other people who are particularly at risk of Covid 19 infection. For Stöhr sees the only advantage of the 2G rule in the fact that it could possibly postpone the infection of some unvaccinated people for a while.

However, Stöhr believes that the infection of the unvaccinated cannot be prevented. On the contrary. This is according to Stöhr “inevitable”. The Hamburg virologist Prof. Jonas Schmidt-Chanasit also criticizes the 2G rule. The 2G-rule offers a false security, which could even ensure that the virus is carried into nursing homes or hospitals again. For this reason, he said, it is important not to forgo testing at all in facilities that are particularly at risk. “Vaccinated people are less likely to be tested! But even vaccinated people can get infected, they have a similar viral load as unvaccinated people. That is for a shorter period of time, but they can also transmit the virus,” Schmidt-Chanasit justifies his concerns. In the eyes of the physician, 2G simplifies infection instead of preventing it.

Prof. Zastrow Criticizes Incorrect Communication

And another hygiene expert also expresses criticism of the 2G rule. Prof. Klaus-Dieter Zastrow believes that the application of 2G will reduce the use of proven protective measures such as tests and masks in the population. “Until now, we have trusted the tests. They have cost the state and the citizens millions – and suddenly the tests are supposed to offer no more safety and be useless? That’s completely confused!”, criticizes Zastrow. Above all, it is the communication that bothers Zastrow, who scolds that on the part of politicians the necessary protective measures have still not been understood. The best way to fight the pandemic is the interaction of all possible protective measures. In Zastrow’s opinion, this is the only way to contain the pandemic. “So testing and the known hygiene measures including masks.” Moreover, Zastrow explains, “2G, on the other hand, is nothing more than a lockdown with compulsory vaccination through the back door.”
