Booster safe until the end of the year! More vaccine for Germany – Moderna supplies 10 million doses of additional vaccine!

Because Germany is facing a shortage of vaccine in the new year due to the booster campaign, the federal government is now busy buying vaccine to fix this problem. With success! For example, the American pharmaceutical company Moderna will deliver an additional 10 million doses of vaccine to Germany by the end of the year.

Federal government fights vaccine shortage

The conducted inventory of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (58, SPD) has shown that the massive booster campaign in Germany will lead to vaccine shortages. For this reason, the federal government has now started to buy urgently needed vaccine. For this reason, Germany is inquiring with neighboring countries and vaccine manufacturers. And this strategy has now begun to bear fruit. For the US manufacturer Moderna has agreed to bring forward part of the deliveries. Germany is to receive 10 million doses of vaccine from Moderna before the end of the year. This would allow for 20 million booster vaccinations alone, as only half a dose is used in Moderna boosters.

More vaccine deliveries in the new year

In addition, the U.S. company is expected to deliver 25 million additional doses in the first quarter of 2022, significantly increasing deliveries already firmly scheduled. The deal with Moderna alone is thus expected to enable an additional 70 million booster vaccinations by April 2022. To this end, the budget committee of the Bundestag released an additional 2.2 billion euros in financial resources for the purchase of vaccine on Wednesday. In addition, another major contract is to be concluded with the Mainz-based company Biontech. This is then to supply partially adapted vaccine against the Omikron variant.
