Change in rules for Johnson&Johnson vaccinees – 2nd vaccination with the American vaccine now mandatory!

One of the benefits of Johnson&Johnson’s Corona vaccine was originally that a single vaccination was supposed to provide sufficient protection against infection with the potentially dangerous coronavirus. But this is now apparently changing. Because in Austria now a 2nd inoculation with the vaccine is recommended. Otherwise the once vaccinated persons are again threatened with contact restrictions. Does this also have an impact on Germany?

New rules for Johnson & Johnson vaccinated

In Upper Austria, a total of 40,000 people had been vaccinated with the single-use vaccine produced by the American pharmaceutical company Johnson&Johnson. These figures have now been confirmed by the provincial crisis staff. But towards the end of September, Austria’s national vaccination board had then made a recommendation for the administration of a second dose of the vaccine. People who do not follow this recommendation will probably have to reckon with restrictions on contact in the future. Thus, these people will have to be quarantined again in the future if they are identified as contacts of a Covid 19 patient. Upper Austria now offers all those vaccinated with Johnson&Johnson a second vaccination with the same vaccine or with an mRNA vaccine (Biontech or Moderna). However, until further notice, those vaccinated once with Johnson&Johnson’s vaccine should also be considered fully vaccinated throughout Austria.

Experts sure: Second vaccination required at Johnson&Johnson

Against the original variant of the coronavirus and also the first mutants, the Johnson&Johnson vaccine had achieved the necessary protective effect for the vaccinated people with only one dose, as confirmed by the lung specialist Bernd Lamprecht, from the Klepler University Hospital in Linz. However, due to the spread of the more infectious mutations, especially the delta variant, a second vaccination is now necessary to further ensure the protection of the vaccinated. So far, however, there have been no increased vaccine breakthroughs with the Johnson&Johnson vaccine, according to Lamprecht.
