Health authorities have confirmed that a dog has been diagnosed in COVID, it looks like the animal contracted it from its master!
Cute dog infected with Corona, how dangerous is the infection between humans and animals?
All available evidence suggests the dog contracted the disease from its owners, who had previously tested positive for COVID, the British government said in a press release.
The dog’s case was confirmed by the UK’s chief veterinary officer, Christine Middlemiss, following tests on November 3. The animal was undergoing treatment for another unrelated illness at the time and is now expected to recover at home.
There is no evidence that the dog passed the disease on to its owners
“Infection of dogs is very rare and they usually show only mild clinical signs and recover within a few days,” Middlemiss said in a statement. “There is no clear evidence that pets transmit the virus directly to humans.
“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and update our advice to pet owners should the situation change.
Dr Katherine Russell, consultant medical epidemiologist at Public Health England, said COVID can sometimes be transmitted from humans to pets and owners should wash their hands regularly, “including before and after contact with animals”.
