Currently, all the stops are pulled against Corona and especially against Omikron! As Health Minister Lauterbacj now announced, the new Corona miracle drug Paxlovid is to be approved as soon as possible in Germany – and that even before the EU approval!
Approval still in January?
The German government wants to obtain approval for the Corona drug Paxlovid from the US company Pfizer before the end of January. “I am confident that by the end of this month we will have put together the necessary package for this, that is, that we will have received shipments of the drug and achieved emergency approval,” German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper.
Accordingly, the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM) is currently preparing a national approval of Paxlovid. Germany should thus be able to use the Corona drug even before the pending approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).
“The drug is particularly suitable for the treatment of unvaccinated high-risk patients. This group is large and particularly at risk,” Lauterbach said.
Already 1 million units ordered
The German health ministry has already contracted with Pfizer for one million units of the drug and has optioned the supply of another million units, he said.
Paxlovid is an antiviral drug that prevents the virus from reproducing. The drug is not yet approved in the EU, but the EMA supports the use of paxlovide for emergency use. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has already granted the Corona pill emergency approval for high-risk patients aged twelve and over.
