Flu and Corona – underestimated danger! 25 people die from double infection from Corona and flu!

Doctors have been warning us for months that we could be facing a severe flu epidemic! Due to the strong hygiene measures that we have all taken, the immune system has become more vulnerable, especially for respiratory diseases. Now the first numbers of a double infection from flu and Corona have become known.

Flu and Corona in a double pack!

The 2020/2021 flu wave was off, so to speak – people protected themselves with masks and distance – is this now coming back as a boomerang? In its September report, the RKI wrote: “In the 2020/21 season, no measurable influenza wave built up at the population level, neither in Germany nor in the other European countries.” The weekly report in early May 2021 said, “ARE activity was at a previously unprecedented low level in the winter months from the hard lockdown at the end of 2020 until the end of February 2021.” ARE stands for “Acute Respiratory Illness,” which includes throat and lung infections. The fear of a violent wave now is therefore great! And – a new study from England shows frightening results concerning double infections from covid and flu!

Already 25 people have died from double infection!

British study looks at how common it is for people to be doubly infected with coronavirus and the flu virus that causes influenza. Researchers led by Julia Stowe of the UK National Infection Service based their survey on data from 19,256 people who were tested for both influenza virus and SARS-CoV-2 between January 20, 2020 and April 25, 2020. “A total of 58 individuals had SARS-CoV-2 and influenza co-infection, 992 had a positive influenza result and were negative for SARS-CoV-2, 4,443 had a positive SARS-CoV-2 result and were negative for influenza, and the remaining 13,763 were negative for both SARS-CoV-2 and influenza during this time period,” the study results state.

A total of 2,699 deaths had occurred, with only 25 of the dead having corona and influenza at the same time. 1,419 (52.6 percent) had only SARS-CoV-2 infection, 48 (1.8 percent) had only influenza, and 1,206 (44.7 percent) had neither covid-19 nor influenza. The number of cases of dual infections resulting in death was low, but depending on absolute infection numbers (corona and influenza), this number could theoretically increase in the 2021/22 winter season.
