A relaxing family holiday in an Albanian 5-star hotel on the beach turned into a tragedy for a family of four from Russia. As reported by the British newspaper Metro, all family members were found dead in the sauna after ordering drinks for themselves shortly before. The victims are Sergey Burenkov (60) and his wife Natalya Burenkova (58) from Moscow as well as their daughter Katya (31) and her partner Nikita Belousov (37). The family had travelled to Albania to spend a beach holiday in Qerret at the five-star Gloria Palace resort. After ordering drinks, the waiter had left the guests in the sauna. When the drinks arrived, a waiter then found the fatalities.

Now the waiter described the incident to the media: “I shouted several times that the drinks and fruit were ready,” Albanian media quoted the hotel employee as saying. “No one answered, so I went to the sauna where I saw everyone. One person was lying on a sun lounger, two on the (sauna) benches. The last person was sitting with his legs in the pool. They all suffocated,” the hotel employee described his gruesome find. Reportedly, the Russian embassy in Tirana also ordered a post-mortem to determine the cause of death. “At around 10:20 p.m., the bodies of four people with Russian citizenship were found in a sauna in Qerret, Kavaja,” Albanian police authorities wrote in their report. Apparently, investigators also believe that the victims suffocated. They are now investigating whether the sauna’s ventilation system led to the family’s deaths. The victims’ alcohol consumption is also to be investigated, they said. Meanwhile, authorities have also questioned all hotel staff about the death. “They had arrived at the hotel just an hour before the tragedy,” one of the employees confirmed to the media. Let’s hope that the cause of the death of the tourists will be found soon.
