Shameful. Trump mocks deceased ex-Secretary of State Powell: “He made a lot of mistakes”

Former U.S. Chief of Staff and Secretary of State Colin Powell’s death has been commented on by ex-President Donald Trump in his own way.

USA – Commenting on the death of former U.S. Chief of Staff and Secretary of State Colin Powell (84), former President Donald Trump (75) said in his own way.

“He made a lot of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!” shared Trump on Tuesday.

He said it was wonderful to see Powell, “who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously the so-called weapons of mass destruction,” being treated so well by the “fake news media” after his death. He hoped that one day the same would be bestowed upon him, Trump’s message continued.

Powell had died on Monday at the age of 84. He served as the country’s first black secretary of state from 2001 to 2004 under then-President George W. Bush.

Powell’s tenure was overshadowed by events following the Sept. 11 attacks – the war on terror and the start of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Before the Iraq war began, hardliners in the U.S. government urged military action, citing alleged intelligence findings on weapons of mass destruction by ruler Saddam Hussein.

In February 2003, Powell finally solicited approval for the Iraq war in a speech to the UN Security Council, citing the later discredited intelligence findings. Powell described this as a major mistake years later.
