Types of Christmas Cookies

.

Everyone has a different image in their mind when they hear “Christmas cookies”. I think of colorful sugar cookies with sprinkles. Others may think of sliced ice cream cookies or cookies with Christmas M&Ms. What is the “perfect Christmas cookie” for me may be something completely different for you. Or maybe you’re looking for a new recipe to make your favorite cookies.

How to get clean edges on Christmas cookies

.

I wish I could claim this tip for myself, because it really is a great baking trick. Full credit goes to Allie from Baking a Moment. She suggests adding a little cornstarch to get the edges just right. She’s the first person I’ve ever heard of who has done this, and it worked beautifully! I substituted a 1/2 cup of flour in my original sugar cookie recipe (our original recipe calls for 3 1/2 cups of flour) for some cornstarch, and it worked like a dream, and I will always make cookie cutters this way from now on! I give her full credit for this genius idea, and highly recommend visiting her website for more genius baking hacks (and incredibly delicious looking desserts and treats).

How to roll out your cookie dough evenly

.

Use a rolling pin with guides that allow you to roll out the dough evenly (this one is my favorite). I like the ones where you can adjust the thickness by removing and reinserting the different sized rings. That way you can make them any thickness you want. I prefer it a little thicker, so I like to use the 3/8 ring when rolling out cookie dough.

What do I need to decorate Christmas cookies?
