Experts sure: Boosters break the 4th wave! This is what we must do now

Is fast boosting the solution to the 4th wave? Researchers agree and say yes – now you need to consider this for yourself:

Does boosting solve our problems?

Quick boosters for half the population could still “probably” break the fourth corona wave, according to leading scientists. That is the key finding of a recent analysis published by the Max Planck Society in Munich on Thursday. According to the study, a third vaccination for 50 percent of people who have already been vaccinated twice could “partially” offset the negative epidemiological effects caused by the relatively high proportion of previously unvaccinated people.

For this to happen, however, a booster campaign would have to progress much faster than the German campaign for first and second vaccinations in the summer. At that time, a maximum of one percent of the population had been vaccinated per day, the international team of experts explained further in its statement. This value would have to be exceeded currently. “Then the increased protection of the triple vaccinated can quickly slow down the rapid increase in new infections and thus soon reduce the burden of intensive care units by Covid-19 sufferers.”

Analysis by top team

The epidemiological analysis comes from a team of authors led by Max Planck researcher Viola Priesemann, whose findings are explicitly supported by the research society’s top management, according to their statement. In parallel with the publication, the president of the Max Planck Society, Martin Stratmann, criticized the federal and state governments. “Politicians should have reacted much earlier to the clear analyses of science and introduced a consistent 2G or 3G regulation nationwide.”

According to the authors’ calculations, a so-called booster vaccination would refresh the vaccination protection of double-vaccinated people, which decreases after about five months, and thus also prevent so-called vaccination breakthroughs. This in turn would inhibit the further spread of the virus. In addition, the increased vaccination protection would further reduce the rate of those who would have to be treated in an intensive care unit after a vaccination breakthrough due to a severe course of the disease.

A booster vaccination would be particularly important for the older half of the population and other particularly vulnerable groups. However, in view of the current rapid spread of the virus, the researchers believe that younger people should also receive a third dose quickly – and possibly even less than six months after achieving full vaccination protection.
