The number of new daily Corona infections in France has crossed the 100,000 threshold for the first time. Within 24 hours, 104,611 new cases had been recorded, authorities said on Saturday. This was the third day in a row that a new high was recorded. On December 4, more than 50,000 new infections were reported in France for the first time. Within three weeks, this number has now more than doubled.
France is already experiencing the fifth Corona wave, the clearly more contagious Omikron variant is spreading more and more, as in many European countries.
President Emmanuel Macron has scheduled a video conference of the national Corona crisis council for Monday afternoon. His government will then meet for an extraordinary cabinet meeting to launch the transformation of the health passport into a vaccination passport even earlier than initially planned. This is in line with the German 2G rule. In future, a negative Corona test will no longer be sufficient to participate in public life. The government does not rule out further restrictions in view of the rising numbers.
