It almost borders on a miracle – in almost all larger neighbouring countries around us the numbers are exploding – Omikron is raging. Germany seems – so far – spared from it! The RKI reported today current figures, and they resemble a small Corona miracle! Also the hospitalization falls clearly!
The nationwide seven-day incidence for new Corona infections has dropped again. According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) on Wednesday morning, the figure was 205.5, down from 215.6 the previous day. A week ago, the value was 289.0. 40,043 new infections were recorded within 24 hours, the RKI said, citing data from health authorities.
The RKI pointed out that due to the Christmas holidays, fewer people had themselves tested and not all health offices forwarded data. The actual numbers could therefore be higher.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, health authorities have reported a total of 7,066,412 cases. The institute put the number of people recovered from corona virus illness in Germany at around 6,277,400. The total number of corona deaths in Germany rose by 414 to 111,219.
In November, the federal and state governments had set the so-called hospitalization incidence as the key benchmark for tightening Corona measures. This figure indicates how many people per 100,000 population are hospitalized within seven days because of a Corona infection. According to the most recent report on Tuesday, the hospitalization incidence nationwide was 3.25.
