Merkel wants the lockdown! Shortly before Merkel’s departure – federal states start with tough restrictions for the unvaccinated

At the moment, Germany has practically all the things that are theoretically necessary to get through the Corona winter without major problems. Because there is enough vaccine and tests. Nevertheless, politics in Germany is spreading lockdown fear again. Also because the numbers shoot up again, especially among unvaccinated German citizens!

Angela Merkel announces severe restrictions for unvaccinated

At a meeting of the CDU executive committee, outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel had already announced that there would be strict restrictions for the unvaccinated. Because recently an exponential growth of the infection numbers was observed once again. In Baden-Wuerttemberg, the number of intensive care patients had already exceeded a limit. There, 284 Covid-19 patients are currently being treated in intensive care units. At present, only 327 intensive care beds are still available in the southern German state. Since almost all intensive care patients are unvaccinated, the state government there has now adopted tougher measures for the unvaccinated. As of Wednesday, they will have to show negative PCR tests almost everywhere if they want to go to a restaurant, a movie theater, or an indoor swimming pool, for example. A quick test will no longer be sufficient in the future. Tougher rules have also been passed in Saxony. Given the current situation,

German medical president Klaus Reinhardt speculates that the unvaccinated will soon disappear from larger parts of public life. Gradually, almost all things in everyday life will be reserved for the vaccinated, the recovered and the negatively tested.

New federal-state summit possible

At the meeting of the Conference of Health Ministers, the various German states had sounded the alarm. “The trend of rapid increase in new infections observed since the end of September became visible in recent weeks in almost all age groups and at a significantly higher level than in the previous year,” it is said from the circles of the health ministers. For this reason, the CDU and CSU apparently want to seek a new federal-state summit next week. But in some federal states, this plan meets with resistance. “We have a functioning warning level system and will focus on further increasing our vaccination rate,” announced, for example, Bremen’s mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (56, SPD). And Lower Saxony’s Prime Minister Stephan Weil (62, SPD) also criticized: “It’s not quite clear to me what is supposed to come out of another conference of prime ministers next week.” On the other hand, there is support from SPD head of government Manuela Schwesig in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. “I am always ready for a conference of Minister Presidents,” Schwesig had said on Tuesday. However, this summit must be “well prepared” and bring “concrete resolutions”.
