Everywhere the much more strenuous Omicron variant of the coronavirus is spreading, infection numbers are going way up. This is now also evident in the U.S.. where the responsible health authorities had to report 220,943 new infections within the last 24 hours on Saturday. This informs the international press agency Reuters after a count of official data. In addition, another 101 people had fallen victim to an infection with the virus. Thus the USA maintains its top position. Because there 52.37 million people have been infected with the insidious coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic and 819,350 people have died from infection with the virus.
This means the country of 330 million people has the highest infection and death figures in the world. In recent days, the numbers had shot up again largely because of the Omicron variant, which has displaced the Delta variant as the driving force behind the pandemic.
