Tragic accident in the Czech city of Zittau! There, on Saturday, the gondola of a cable car crashed and hit the ground from a height of 15 meters. In the accident, one person died, who is said to have been the operator of the gondola. Actually, the installation was supposed to be serviced on Monday.
A person has died in the crash of the gondola a cable car on the mountain Jested in the Czech Republic. The fatality is believed to have been the driver of the gondola, who had apparently been travelling alone in the gondola to the top of the 1,000-metre-high mountain near Zittau at the time of the accident at around 1.30pm on Saturday. Just as the carriage had passed the first pillar of the cable car, the gondola had then plunged 15 metres into the depths for reasons as yet unexplained. The driver on board was killed at the scene of the accident. So far there are no clues to the background of the accident. However, it became known that the crashed wagon should actually be taken out of service on Monday for routine maintenance work.
Luck in the accident had another wagon, which had made itself behind the crashed gondola on the way to the summit. The driver of the 2nd gondola had a total of 14 people on board who had witnessed the mishap of the gondola ahead of them. Subsequently, the gondola, which was occupied by passengers, had stopped in the middle of the track. All passengers including the driver had to be rescued from dizzy heights by the fire brigade. However, some of the people on board the gondola had suffered a shock while observing the accident and had to be cared for by emergency chaplains, as the Czech news portal “Ceske Noviny” confirms.
