As we reported a few days ago, the vaccine from Moderna is under pressure worldwide! The Scandinavian countries have already imposed a vaccination stop, also France! Now the hammer – also the German StiKo estimates Moderna as too risky! Too often there were reports about side effects.
The Standing Committee on Vaccination (Stiko) now only recommends vaccination with the Biontech vaccine against coronavirus for people under 30. In an updated vaccination recommendation published on Wednesday, the Stiko justified this with a new data situation on vaccinations. According to this data, heart muscle inflammations were found more frequently in boys and young men as well as girls and young women when using the Moderna vaccine, which is also approved for this age group, than with the Biontech vaccine.
The new recommendation also states that only Biontech should be given to pregnant women, regardless of age. In addition to basic immunization, the recommendation also applies to booster vaccinations – meaning that under-30s vaccinated with Moderna should receive their second or possibly already third vaccination with Biontech.
The Stiko pointed out that since the introduction of the two vaccines, it has been known that in rare cases heart muscle and/or pericardial inflammation occurred in younger people after vaccination. Current reporting analyses show that this is more often the case with the Moderna vaccine.
The increased risk of myocarditis does not exist for people 30 years of age and older. The acute course of myocarditis and pericarditis caused by the vaccine is “predominantly mild”, the Stiko explained.
