7 new movies to watch on Netflix this weekend.
Including a prequel to a big genre hit, a musical drama, and a vampire thriller. With these movies, a couch weekend is a real treat!
.
Halloween falls on a Sunday this year, which means you can spend your whole weekend celebrating if that’s what you want. And if you want to relax and celebrate (in your pajamas and with popcorn), a movie marathon might be just the thing to help you unwind. We’ve taken a look at the movies coming to Netflix in the two weeks leading up to October 29, and picked out some notable new additions. Read on to find out what’s new.
1st Army of Thieves.
Army of Thieves is a prequel (yes, already!) to Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead, which was a big Netflix hit during the lockdown. The new film centers on Matthias Schweighöfer’s character Ludwig, who is hired to pull off a heist during the early stages of the zombie apocalypse, which is already in full swing in the next film. Schweighöfer is also directing.
Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney (The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley, Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief) takes on whistleblower platform Wikileaks and its infamous founder Julian Assange in this 2013 film.
“The film unfolds like a spy thriller, but with a methodical journalistic ability to organize a mountain of facts,” said The Hollywood Reporter’s review, “raising thought-provoking questions about transparency and freedom of information in a world where governments and corporations have much to hide.”
In this new Netflix thriller, hypnotherapy isn’t quite the solution a woman wants after a breakup. Hypnotic stars Kate Seigel as Jenn, a new patient of the dangerously charismatic Dr. Meade (Jason Mara). As Jenn begins to run out of time, she begins to wonder what exactly Dr. Meade is trying to force her to do in her hypnotic state.
4. Begin Again.
Begin Again is a film from the filmmaker of Once that looks like a romantic comedy, but is actually about the joy of creating art. In it, Keira Knightley plays an aspiring singer-songwriter who is able to step out of her rock star boyfriend’s (Adam Levine) shadow after his breakup. Mark Ruffalo is the washed-up producer who believes she can be a sensation in her own right.
.
King Arthur: The Legend of the Sword wasn’t the box office hit it was expected to be, and the planned sequels never materialized. But it’s still a gritty take on the legend, directed by Guy Ritchie, the director of Sherlock Holmes, and starring Charlie Hunnam of Sons of Anarchy – and it’s worth watching if you’re a fan of either. Need more convincing? A guest appearance from David Beckham should sweeten the deal.
6. The Teeth of the Night
A driver (Jorge Lendeborg Jr.) doesn’t know what he’s getting into when he picks up his passengers for the evening in Night Teeth. But he soon finds out, as the young women (Debby Ryan, Lucy Fry) in the backseat of his car turn out to be immortal creatures of the night who nevertheless need a ride to their various vampiric destinations.
In the Polish thriller In for a Murder, a lonely housewife (Anna Smolowik) takes charge of the investigation when a body is found in her sleepy town. She’s also obsessed with mysteries, so she believes she has the detective skills to get to the bottom of things. If you’re also a true crime fan, this book could really get to you.
