On Friday, an avalanche occurred in the Chiemgau Alps, burying a 41-year-old woman. Thanks to the quick action of the rescue forces, the woman could be rescued alive but seriously injured from the masses of snow.
A serious avalanche accident took place on Friday in the Chiemgau Alps. Apparently, a woman had triggered the avalanche when she had been walking near the summit of Hochgern near Ruhpolding. The avalanche had swept the woman away and then down a steep slope into a gully, according to the Ruhpolding mountain rescue team. Fortunately, a snowshoe walker had observed the avalanche and immediately alerted the rescue services. They were able to rescue the buried woman with combined forces from her predicament. She had suffered serious injuries in the accident and had to be flown to a hospital by helicopter.
Because it had not initially been determined whether the avalanche had captured more people, the search work continued even after the rescue of the injured woman. However, no other victims were found in the masses of snow. At the time of the accident, avalanche warning level 2 had been declared in the Chiemgau Alps. This means moderate avalanche danger.
