Fourth vaccination already in planning? These people could even be vaccinated a fourth time against Corona!

Some people may receive a fourth dose of vaccine – discussions are already underway! Who can expect a fourth Corona vaccination, you can find out here.

Updated Vaccination Guide!

Health officials on Monday issued updated guidance that some immunocompromised people can receive a fourth dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for added protection.

The federal agency allows moderately and severely immunocompromised adults to receive a fourth booster shot if they have completed a first series of an mRNA vaccine and received a third additional dose. The fourth vaccination can be administered six months after the last dose.

Refresher vaccination grade approved!

The adjusted recommendations come a few days after the CDC approved the booster vaccination, in which a person receives a different brand dose than their initial vaccination.

Accordingly, moderately and severely immunocompromised individuals who received Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines for their first three vaccinations can receive a different booster vaccine if they wish.

The CDC distinguished the definitions of supplemental dose and booster vaccination, saying a supplemental dose refers to a subsequent vaccination for individuals who are not thought to have an adequate immune response to the first series of vaccines.

Protection will have declined!

A booster vaccination, on the other hand, is a booster vaccination for people whose protection from the first series of vaccines is thought to have diminished over time.

The CDC officially recommended immunocompromised individuals receive a third additional dose of mRNA vaccine in August, so the earliest recipients of the third dose would not be eligible for a fourth vaccination until February. The additional third vaccination was recommended at least 28 days after the second dose.

Immunocompromised Johnson & Johnson recipients received different instructions: They should receive a single COVID-19 booster vaccination at least two months after the first dose, just like all adults who received the single dose.

Moderna and Johnson & Johnson may go ahead!

After a unanimous vote by the advisory panel, the federal agency last week granted certain Moderna and Johnson & Johnson patients the opportunity to receive booster shots.

While all Johnson & Johnson vaccinated adults are recommended to receive a booster vaccination, the CDC recommended the additional vaccination for certain at-risk Moderna and Pfizer BioNTech populations, including persons age 65 and older, persons in long-term care facilities, and persons age 50 to 64 with underlying medical conditions.

CDC also granted the option of booster vaccination following mRNA vaccine for other adults with underlying medical conditions and for adults who are at risk of contracting COVID-19 because of their occupational or institutional setting.

Pfizer-BioNTech’s vaccine was approved for these populations last month, ahead of Moderna and Johnson & Johnson’s approval of the booster dose.
