No more pay for the unvaccinated! New regulation comes into force – pressure to vaccinate increases!

Unvaccinated workers previously continued to receive wage reimbursement if they had to go into quarantine because of the coronavirus. But that rule has now been eliminated as of November 1. However, there are also exceptions to this new rule.

No more reimbursement for lost earnings – unvaccinated face financial losses

Even unvaccinated workers previously got paid for lost earnings. if they had to complete a quarantine. But that right to continued pay will now be eliminated on Nov. 1. This decision was made by the majority of the federal states already at the end of September. Only two federal states voted against this regulation. These are Bremen and Thuringia. Until now, all employees who were unable to work due to a quarantine were entitled to continued payment of wages. The employer makes an advance payment to the employee and then receives the money back from the state on application. Thus, lost wages could be reimbursed for a maximum period of 6 weeks. From the seventh week onwards, the share then drops to just 67 percent of the loss of earnings. This wage reimbursement is now to be eliminated for many unvaccinated workers.

Who will not be affected by this new regulation?

But there are exceptions. These apply to all adults who have actually contracted the coronavirus. Infected workers are entitled to continued pay and that is regardless of whether they are vaccinated or not. In addition, the rule does not apply to pregnant and breastfeeding women. This is because the regulation also does not apply to those for whom there had been no recommendation for vaccination up to 8 weeks prior to the quarantine to be commenced. In addition, the new regulation also does not apply to civil servants. The change in the continuation of payment of wages had been changed because the behaviour of unvaccinated persons was considered to be lacking in solidarity. In the meantime, any person could get vaccinated, he said. The vaccine shortage of the past has not existed for months. “Now, all those who unfortunately have not been vaccinated until now, also decide that they can no longer dispose of this state solidarity,” clarifies the Minister of Health of Baden-Württemberg, Manfred Lucha.

Who currently has to be in quarantine?

Quarantine is currently prescribed almost only for unvaccinated people. No quarantine is currently required for vaccinated people who have been identified as the contact person of an infected person.

Thus, a quarantine is only imposed if an unvaccinated person has had contact with a person infected with Corona. In addition, travelers returning from high-risk areas must also take a 10-day quarantine or a 14-day quarantine if returning from a virus-variant area.
