Because this now already handles the official business of his country from a luxury hotel in the Bavarian Garmisch-Partenkirchen since the start of the pandemic. Already in March 2020, King Rama X had rented the “Grand Hotel Sonnenbichl”, which was closed at the time due to the Corona pandemic, as accommodation for himself and his entourage. Since then, the Thai king has spent a large part of his time in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Thus, Rama X is said to live in Bavaria for more than 80 percent of the year instead of attending to official business in his own country of Thailand. For this reason, the king had even amended the Thai constitution to no longer have to appoint a deputy during his stays abroad.
