Should I boost with another vaccine? Expert confirms – cross-vaccination protects more reliably against infection!

At the moment, the infection figures of the coronavirus are going up everywhere in Germany. Tougher measures are being discussed everywhere. One of the most sensible measures, according to experts, is the rapid progress of booster vaccinations against the coronavirus. An expert has now commented on this at the RTL Corona Talk.

Expert answers important questions in the Corona pandemic

.

This time, the TV station RTL had invited Prof. Timo Ulrichs, who answered the most important questions of the viewers. These wanted to know how to break the current 4th Corona wave and how useful the booster vaccinations actually are. In addition, there were questions about which vaccine to use for the booster. Already with the 1st and the 2nd vaccination partly different vaccines had been administered. In these cases one speaks of a so-called cross-vaccination. For this reason, epidemiologist Prof. Timo Ulrichs explained that in the case of booster vaccination, it is also possible to be vaccinated with a different vaccine than the one previously given. In this context, Ulrichs pointed out that cross-vaccination had proven to be more effective in many cases.

What will happen to vaccinations in the future?

For many people, of course, the question now is whether it may now be necessary for people to get booster vaccinations every year. Expert Ulrichs believes that will not be the case for now. Only a drastic change in the virus would make a new vaccination with a modified vaccine necessary. Otherwise, the booster vaccination is sufficient to anchor the vaccination protection in the immune memory of the human body. Prof. Ulrichs advises a booster vaccination in any case to refresh the vaccination protection. ” You can and should still get vaccinated a third time. The immune system cannot be overstimulated. On the contrary, it processes this high level of protection very well,” the physician clarifies. Most recently, outgoing Health Minister Jens Spahn had recommended booster vaccination for all people whose 2nd vaccination against the virus was more than 6 months ago. The Standing Committee on Vaccination currently recommends booster vaccination for high-risk patients and people with an age of at least 70 years.
