Corona outbreak in German prison! 15 inmates and 5 staff infected with Corona virus

An outbreak of the insidious coronavirus has been reported at Leipzig Prison. According to the report, at least 20 people are currently infected with Covid-19. According to information from the prison, 15 inmates and 5 employees are affected. This means the highest number of infected persons since the beginning of the Corona pandemic. Throughout Saxony, the infection numbers continue to rise, which is why measures for the unvaccinated are now being considered.

At least 20 Corona cases in JVA Leipzig

Authorities in Saxony are reporting a major Corona outbreak from JVA Leipzig, where a total of 20 people are said to have contracted the Corona virus. This was reported on Sunday by the

“Leipziger Volkszeitung”. According to the daily, the infected are 5 employees and 15 inmates. When asked, prison director Rolf Jacob spoke of an “increased incidence of infection”. This had started on 12 October. This is the first time the JVA has reported a massive outbreak of the virus since the pandemic began. “In the course of the pandemic so far, only individual persons – staff or prisoners – were infected,” informed the JVA director. While the infected staff members are in domestic isolation, the affected prisoners have been isolated in their cells. In order to prevent the spread of the virus, the individual departments of the JVA have now been strictly separated and close-meshed tests are being carried out every day to detect further cases of infection. According to Jacob, the incidence of infection in the JVA would meanwhile subside.

Incidence values in Saxony go steeply up

And also outside the prison walls, the incidence values in all of Saxony are rising again. Meanwhile, the value there is again at

253.9, which is the second highest value of all federal states after Thuringia (288.9). Especially among the unvaccinated people, the virus is spreading almost explosively. Because while the values had decreased among vaccinated persons, the number of unvaccinated infection cases continues to increase. The rising numbers of infections are already causing problems in

hospitals again. Health Minister Petra Köpping (SPD) called the current patient numbers “alarming”. Currently, 602 Corona patients are treated in the normal wards of hospitals in Saxony, while 172 patients occupy intensive care beds. 3 weeks ago, the number of patients in intensive care units had been only 72, For the most part, most patients are unvaccinated. One of the reasons could be the low vaccination rate in Saxony. This is currently at just 56.6 percent, while nationwide 66.6 percent of German citizens have been vaccinated. For this reason, the Saxon state government wants to decide in the new weeks to extend the 2G rules. This would mean significant disadvantages and restrictions for unvaccinated people in everyday life.
